Hi all,
I am new to Linux. The only linux box I have ever set is a Redhat for sharing dial-up connection. I did not download this e-smith package yet. I want to be sure that this will work for me.
I want to get a wireless connection from ISP and they give me 4 static IPs. And meanwhile there are 2 networks in my office, they are not connected each other.
1. I want to connect the internet to a Linux box with 3 NICs.
2. One NIC will go to the wireless device.
3. Two other will be wired to each server in my subnet.
4. Each server will have 2 NICs, one for static IP from ISP (connected to Linux box above), and the other for it's internal network connected to hub. Each of them will act as internal web/db server and router for their networks.
5. The Linux box will hold 2 IPs and act as mail server for all of the subnet (with fully qualified domain name), proxy server, and slave dns server.
6. I had a server located at my ISP and it runs web server and a master dns server.
The question is:
1. Can I use e-smith for the Linux box I mentioned above and set it up easily by my my self? Or should I hire a Linux guru and let him choose the distro? Or a hardware router?
2. Assuming there will be a lot of trafic to internal network and request for dns from external, what the minimum requirement for the Linux (with e-smith)? Will a P3-450 with 256MB and a pair of 30gigs HD (RAIDed) work? Or this can be done with a lower spec?
Thanks in advance,
Iwan
