'nother newbie question - retrospectively adding hardware

Couple of questions:

1. If I add more memory, faster processor, or a second HDD, do I need to re-install?

2. If I add/use a HDD larger than the PC's BIOS will support, does Linux natively provide large disk support (say, <=250MB on an EIDE controller)

Would this be a yes or a no for Linux and e-smith?
