There used to be a howto on synoptics web site for installing bpalogin for Australian cable but all I get when I try to go there for the past month is an error. Does anybody have a copy or perhaps some other instructions please?

If I remember correctly there is no install instructions as such, it was just an rpm. I think there was a process for the connection though which was to configure it the same as a pppoe connection (memory failing here, it was a few years since I have used it) Last time I needed it I had the same problem, it wasn't there when I went looking. Last time I needed it I got the info via email. Try emailing Robert at Synaptic, he has always been helpful in the past, if you can't get any info from him you could also try Charlie Brady, last time synaptics site was not updated Charlie was kind enough to email me what I needed for bpalogin.

The RPM was Charles Brady's work. I can't find that now either!

Charles Brady's bpalogin RPMs can be found at the links below. Donot use version 2 of bpalogin as there are numerious problems with it. The old version works fine for me.

I just installed the software on version 6 of SME and it seems to be working properly.
The Pern-Net-DNS is included with 6 - it won't install from the rpm but other than that, everything is fine... So far

Well... That's yes and no! Yes it's installed and authenticating and no, it has an issue with the heartbeat peculiar to Bigpond cable.

The logs say the clint is listning on port 32768.
The messages log says it denied access on this port and the thing drops it's connection and logs back in.
My problem is that I haven't a clue how to open this port. Last time I opend a port in a SME server I installed a module called 'open ports'. Could someone tell me how I find it now please?

There was a post a while back about this.  As a result, a very king NZ gentlemen sent me dmc-mitel-portopening-0.0.1.4-noarch.rpm. Works like a charm for me.  Give me your email address off list, I will send.

It isn't even getting to using BPALogin. The server gets the address off the router 192.168.100.2 rather than the real Internet IPaddress.
It will connect fine with a Debian box using bog standard bpalogin. This is a SME-Server specific issue.

WHat exactly changes when you change to the 'unlimited account'. Cable only or ADSL as well??

eek.. this is not good.. I am due to rollover to the unlimited account at the start of may.

The connection error was caused by the server haviing had countless upgrades and an old version of perl_NET_DNS on the server.

Synaptic.. are you referring to the 'telsra unlimited account' connection errors in quoted by me (as 'guest') from robert111's post?
