that will not help

BTW what does BTW mean.
or lol
or stf
or ups - yours

or IMHO

Do a google IMHO -- that will help a lot.

If your lucky you might see the one returned I'M a HOMO

I still don't know what it means IMHO.

There is no place that has a listing of forum lingo.......

breaker......breaker..... is that a smokie I see.

To a newbie it's all greek.........breaker......breaker.

apt-get ...... well where do I get -apt- and I'll get it.

As for "STF_ing" aka "Suffing the Forum", you GOTTA know the key words and to a newbie "da" is the keyword at the top of the list
like in

"da what should I search for".........

or if your like myself from NY "what the F_ _K do I search for.

Just learning and remembering all this stuff aka sh_t is more than

overwhelming for a newbie.

My favorite response I've seen to a newbie .... "STF".

Oh that helps them alot.

Like a sharp stick in the eye...!!!

I still remain polite though......... ah F U very much.

Now who got me started here.........oh yeah donjski.

Thanks I needed that!

The problem is that there are problems and not enough time to solve them.

I hate M$ because I spend more time solving than doing.

I'm using Linux because I heard that I would be doing and less solving because it's soooo much better than M$ aka Micro$oft.

This is a clue folks......keyword **** doing ****!!!

I wonder if we added up all the time wasted every day in the world,

everybody solving that is ....... it might just shock

someone like an employer and take these things aka computers and

chuck em in the dumpster.

Good thing they have better things to think about.

Slate and a chisel ..... anyone?

We are looking for FAST answers to the problem so we can apt-get on with it.........DOING.

If software developers would doc & test better we wouldn't have to

put up with "STF".

We could be doing ........ all's I want is to be DOING.

I don't want to solve a

BUG --- someone not paying attention to detail!
vulnerability --- someone not paying attention to detail!
POO-R/P documentation --- someone not paying attention to detail!
incompatibilty --- someone not paying attention to detail!

Surely we don't want to pay for --- someone not paying attention to detail!

Thus "General Public License" GPL aka free ... to us for thier inability to paying attention to detail!

Thank God their not pilots......they'd be droping out of the sky.

We have a saying in the flying business.........

Your first mistake is your last mistake!!!

Sometimes we have to weigh the costs.

"STF" costs too much and my question is... is it any better than the other alternative M$.

Paying BIG $$$$$ for --- inability to paying attention to detail.

AKA Micro$oft!

The good thing about STF is you don't have to call "support" aKa

"dial a joke".

Their newbie's too ....... da!

Call support and ask ..... how long have you been at this.

If the answer is "this is my first day" you should hang up and call back and wait another 90 minutes on hold listening to Hip Hop.

Maybe you'll hear the song you like.

Have a good day all!!

Hey.....does anybody want a Hayes 300 baud modem.

It keeps dropping the con 55105498=19=10594=04953fj3049fj-04r nection.

:hammer: I still don't know what STF stands for. But then again, I think that it realy doesn't matter what STF stands for.

As far as searching the forums? Well, ever since contrib.org took over the forums from Mitel, the searches are not helpful these days. You no longer get to select which specific forum you want to search, what days ect. like it was under the old Mitel forums.

The fact remains, that whenever I do a search in the forums, I get irrelevant information that does not apply to what I am looking for. Prior to the forum change over, I could do a search in the forums and find the solution to just about any question I had.

Now as for those sorry sports that don't like general questions in the general forum are concerned, I suggest you stay out of the general forum and stick to the experienced user forum.

Oh that's right, those people don't want you there  because your to busy being obnoxious egotistical know-it-alls giving the wrong answers to the right questions.

My reason for posting is that I would like to see contrib.org tweak the search engine so that search results are more accurate and applicable.

Let the general forum be for the newbees who need a lot of answer's to general questions which would include networking answers. And let the experienced users forum be for thos experience SME users who don't want to bothered by the newbees in the general forum.

While adding a new network howto forum might be more suitable for network newbees, I thing tha if contribs.org would tweak the search algorithm the need for basic network questions would be less needed.

For instance, I did a search using network. The following is the first set of links that came upl

 User Manager How to

Again, where is the always should be there link to the Server Manager howto?

As you can see from the results of the search engine, it would be very difficult for a newbee to do a search in the forums and actually get some things accomplished in a reasonable amount of time.

Now of course, if your a search engine king which I am not, and niether are the newbees, then you may not have any trouble finding the solution to your problem. Newbees on the other hand will and do.

The other thing that strikes me as odd about all those geerz that came from the guest posters is their insisting that the forums are for the purpose of keeping this distro alive.

Question: How do you keep a distro alive when you're chasing all the newbees away?

Answer: You don't.

So the next time you idiots, and that is exactly what you are: idiots, have a problem with a general newbee question, that you think doesn't belong in the general users forum. Please do the rest of us who know a little bit about the SME a favor.

Keep your arogant, egotistical, mouth shut! And let those who don't have a problem with answering the question, answer it.

Now I realize I tend to snap a little harder than some people can handle. So go have your mommy kiss your boo boos and here's some realy bad tasting medicine. :pint:

In reading all the posts of late about sme questions
it appears the problem is not the newbies but the questions

how to use windows to collect mail
how to setup a dns server
how to setup a website etc

this is a sme forum not a general ho do I forum

as to satovey would you believe you can narrow your search
on the forun your "network" is pretty broad also

STF = search the forum

I mean, c'mon, I enjoy toasting the odd newbie from time to time but you're off the scale, Baird!  I picture you frothing at the mouth and pounding your keyboard as you post your flaming drivel.  Chill out, have a cocktail, GET A LIFE, willya?

It's all just ones and zeroes, you know.

If I didn't consider it rude, I would turn that one right back at you!
But in the end, it's all in the eye of the beholder.
You've expressed your views, I've expressed mine.
Let's leave it at that, and get on with what it's all about, shall we ?
