RBLList rejects my local domain!
« on: April 30, 2004, 04:37:22 PM »
Hi All,
I setup a RBLList. The problem it seems to be checking mail from my domain to other users on my domain when I tried to test it after the install.

My outlook client reports:
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'carmen@bertoncini.net'. Subject 'Webmail Access', Account: 'Home', Server: 'mail.bertoncini.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '451 http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=129.33.49.251', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 451, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

How do I exempt my domain from the RBLList process?

Thanks
Tampa, FL USA

It is the sender who is being rejected, NOT the recipient. Your server IS NOT accepting messages from a known problem IP. The message is coming from an IP that is listed on xbl.spamhaus.org
Search here
http://www.spamhaus.org/xbl/index.lasso
You see it is listed on
CBL - Composite Blocking List

The CBL takes its source data from very large spamtraps, and only lists IPs exhibiting characteristics which are specific to open proxies of various sorts (HTTP, socks, AnalogX, wingate etc) which have been abused to send spam, worms/viruses that do their own direct mail transmission, or some types of trojan-horse or "stealth" spamware, without doing open proxy tests of any kind.

See
http://cbl.abuseat.org/lookup.cgi?ip=129.33.49.251&.submit=Lookup

You can request it be removed BUT you better find out why it is listed, as it will only get listed again later (for longer & possibly permanently).

Have you got an open relay there or something ?

You might want to remove the xbl.spamhaus.org list from the RBLList property temporarily

It appears that the IP address listed belongs to one of my employer's mail servers and it some how ended up on one of the CBL's that Spamhaus references. So I guess I'll just forward the issue to one of our server farm people at work and let them deal with it. Thanks for the helpful responce :)
