Retrieving mail from multiple servers
« on: May 11, 2004, 12:52:46 PM »
Hi folks,

At the moment my SME server is retrieving mail via SMTP from my DynDNS e-mail account.

This is working very nicely and allows me to get some sort of home e-mail access when I'm at work.

However, I was wondering if its possible to get the SME server to collect mail via POP3 from my other e-mail accounts and then put them in the relevent users mailbox?

Each user has their own POP3 mailbox on my web space provider with a username such as username+domain.co.uk

Basicly I'd like to collect mail from pop3 user "fred" and put it in Fred's mailbox on my SME server, and then collect mail from pop3 user "wilma" and put them in the SME server mailbox for "wilma".

At the moment I'm using SME Server 6.0 but I'm planning on upgrading to the latest SME server this evening if I have time.

Regards,

Rob

Okay, I've gone through the "How to install fetchmail" document and now I have an extra option called "fetchmail" on the menu bar on the left hand side of the server manager.

The thing is, I'm stuck where to go from here.

What I would like to do to start with is pick mail up from my old ISP's POP3 server and deliver it into the mailbox for user 'rob'.

My server is currently picking up mail from a DynDNS account via SMTP and this seems to be working fine.  I just don't know where to put the details of my other mail server and what options to change.

Eventually if I can get the server to download one POP3 account, I'd like to have it download mail from 3 POP3 accounts for one user, and 1 POP3 account for another user.

Does anyone know where I can find any more information on how to do this?

I was also wondering, what is MultiDrop?

EnglishRob,
A quick search of the forum with any of the terms "multiple mail box" "multipop" "fetchmail" "multidrop" etc should give a couple of nights reading.

Nonetheless, one of the add ins from www.dungog.net has had favourable comment from many people that does exactly what you want. It is a commercial product (about $30US?) but allows you to set up multiple mail collections for each user.

Its not the only one out there but seems to be one most people have had success with.

Have fun!

Mail from multiple pop3 accounts

Hi.
I basicly do this but let an outside pop3 email account fetch the mail from the other accounts then e-smith picks up this and distributes it to the relevent accounts via the header info.
It has been working well now for over a year now.

As to your previous enquiry about selling e-smith. The way I do it is charge for the install time and costs for making the CD and cost of the CD and label.
and then the support.

Well, I managed to fix it this evening.

I set the e-mail settings from standard to multi-drop, then went to a root shell and ran:

/etc/startmail

Now its happily downloading all my mail from my other accounts.  :pint:
