Moving SME to a New Server

Hi,
What is the reccomended method for moving SME server to a new server? I'm assuming that you do a Backup to Desktop on the old machine, install a fresh copy of SME server on the new machine, do a Restore from desktop to pull in the backup performed from the old machine, reboot the new machine and all should be fine.
Is this correct?
I have tried exactly this method and after I do a restore from desktop on the new machine and then reboot I cannot connect to the server manager web interface. When the machine is booting is says httpd-admin - FAILED.
What am I doing wrong? I desperately need to move SME server to a new machine so that I can use the other machine for something else.
Any advice much appreciated.
Mark

Are you changing sme versions at the same time?

A version change during this process might well put you where you are now.

I am in the process of moving hardware and upgrading vesions in one hit. Given that using the reinstallation disk made with a 5.6 and a 6.01-01 cd gives a wrong version error message (documented elsewhere) I am looking down the barrel at a data only migration and hand recreation of all accounts etc.

It would be great if the community got together some how to move from one server build to another documentation.

I am willing to record what I do  - but is there a better way?

If you think this is fun replacing Windows NT servers is more so - roaming profiles - now how do you simply copy them across in a few minutes? I have tried copying the NT profiles into the samba profiles - and it sort of worked. But outlook - @#$!@%##$% outlook. I had to hand delete every button down the side and remake every button down the side on 19 accounts a couple of saturdays ago

Did you guys ever figure out how to do this?  I have SME 6.0 working perfectly on an older machine, but I want to move it to a newer faster server.  I don't want to rebuild everything manually though.

Upgrade the old PC to v6.0.1, back it up and restore it to a new SME v6.0.1 Server.

Ghost old HDD (bit for bit copy) to new HDD and run upgrade process on new system.  Adjust for new NIC's and away you go.

This process is very robust particularly if you upgrade to latest version or un-install any contribs that might prove intrusive to the upgrade process (a/v springs to mind).

How reliable is an upgrade from SME Server 6.0 to 6.0.1?

I'm going to upgrade my server from a P3-450 with 128MB ram to a Athlon 1400 with 512k Ram to give it a bit extra speed.
