Permissions on IBays
« on: May 18, 2004, 01:47:34 AM »
I am using SME5.5

I have set up an ibay that is linked to a group with 4 users.
I want 1 user to be able to edit, save, delete items in the ibay with the other 3 being able to read only.

Could someone please advise me on this.

Also (this may seem a silly question to some) when you set the permissions (via server-manager) on an ibay eg "User access via file sharing or user ftp" Write =Admin Read=Group

Who is Admin?

Admin is the admin for the SME Server.  Your root account.

With regards to your situation, i'm not sure its possible if they are all in the same group.  Since, as far as i know you cannot specify one user in a group to have certain rights the others do not.

If its not vitally important that only that group can see the files.  You would have to set it up with the user you want to be able to edit as the only user of the group.  and set the permissions to group-write.  read-all.

Anyone more experienced know if its possible do this any other way?

That is the correct way.

I never knew that you could logon via windows using admin & password. I have logged on using admin & password when I have first joined an XP or Win200 PC to an SME Server, but never on its own. What I will do now is login as admin copy the information to the ibay and and the other "read" members of the group can view (read) only.

Thanks again Boris
