Incremental (security) updates: where to find them?

Dear folks at contribs.org,
I congratulate you on the great site.
It is so good to have all the info in one place!
Something I didn't manage to find is a place where there are recommended (or even obligatory) updates to bring an already installed version to the current level.
For 6.01-01 I burned a CD and installed it in upgrade mode.  I used to do these minor upgrades remotely, downloading the few rpms in an update folder with wget. This time I had to take a train.
Nowadays I see references to YUM repositories that are huge, and differing from each other.  And I see no foolproof howto for YUM either (I can't seem to be able to get to the post by Charly Brady).
Is there a way to describe in a few lines when to install what so that the install is "officially" current and safe?  And fit to install on a production server?
Personally I have no issue with just following the forums on a regular basis, but I have to leave a server in the hands of non-Linux guru collegues who I try to instruct with a clear workflow to keep the server tidy.
Is there also a mailing list where updates are announced, like Microsoft offer?
Kind greetings,
Thony (OK, not a Linux guru either)

Dear Thony

You'll find this under the downloads section

"official"
ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/smeserver/updates/6.0.1/RPMS/

or
"unofficial"
ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/e-smith/devel/RPMS/

The various yum repositories I've seen mentioned appear to be for personal use to suit the creators requirements, and some are for test only, so I don't think the yum concept is really functional as yet for use as a general purpose update tool.

> Is there also a mailing list where updates are announced

I think a new mailing list specifically for update announcements would be a very good idea. Probably only postable to by contribs administrators.
Again at contribs.org care to comment if this is possible ?

The last part of my previous post should have read

Anyone at contribs.org care to comment if this is possible ?
