SME 6 DNS Configuration
« on: May 22, 2004, 11:15:11 PM »
I've been having some trouble with my SME in gateway mode, so I put my ZyWALL 10 back into the loop.

Cablemodem <--> ZyWALL 10 <--> LAN

My SME is in server-only mode now.  I was hoping to keep DHCP and DNS services (among other things) running on the SME, but I'm having trouble.

If I add the router IP address (or my ISP's DNS address) to the DNS section in setup, I can no longer resolve local names through the SME.  All resolution appears to be done by the address I specify.

Is there a way to leave the SME in server-only mode, and still have it do DNS for the LAN and only forward requests it CAN'T resolve?

Thanks for NOT replying and FORCING me to THINK about this problem.

It would seem I'm simply impatient.

After double-checking all my configurations, everything is working smoothly.

SME is 'protected' behind my ZyWALL, doing DHCP, DNS, and some other things just fine now.

Thx for not giving up and thinking by yourself. Congrats  that you solved the problem. How have you solved the issue of SME not resolving local names if the router comes into play?
