Forward mail to several users
« on: May 24, 2004, 12:44:36 PM »
I got a task here:

I have to forward etc:
tt @domain to several external adresses

How do I place that in my 90aliases file
(Got it in costum templates, and working internally to users)

do I simply place:
tt@domain.invalid:rec1@other.domain rec2@another.domain ?

or do I need ; between the two adresses
or do I have to make a single line entry for each ?

As it is a running produvtion system, I have no room for try and error.
And I can't find it in the forums, could be because I don't know the right search frace to use.

Need it running within this week.

Soren,

I would try this:

Create a group to represent the distribution list/users.  Then create individual user accounts in server manager.  Put each one into the group.  On each account, you can set to deliver mail locally or forward to an external address or both....set what you want.

Can be the end of it, unless the alias file can be set up to do the trick  :-?

My problem is 200+ users, with 190 outside the house.
They will then be mixed in 50-or so groups.

Of these 190 less than 20 would be allowed acess to the server, as in possibility to log on to it.

I just can't understand if the server can't be set up to do the trick.

I have tried setting up the 90aliases file like this:
----sample code start----

test @reopos.dk:loctest

#groupmail local aliases

loctest

# local alias forwards

loctest:user1 @onedomain.dk, user2 @anotherdomain.dk, steine @reopos.dk

----sample code end----

After editing the file, I run:

killall -HUP qmail-send

I get mails to test @ reopos.dk forwarded to the admin account as it is an unknown user in the system ?

Single forwards like test2@reopos.dk:myusername works fine.

Only 28 groups possible on SME by design limitation.

:-(

Then I'm in trouble unless I can get the forward to work.

Anyone at all who can point me to where I can find the syntax for the aliases file ?

What about the dot-forward thing, is that possible on E-Smith ?

Here's an old post that might help, from the e-smith site. Search for it here if you want.

1. create user example list
2. edit /home/esmith/files/user/list/ .Qmail
example

&1@mail.ru
&2@mail.ru

Thanks Ray.

I think I've got it sorted out now,
just waiting for the new domain to get the MX record on the dns service updated.

If it works, I will attempt to translate my notes into a How-To

Perhaps someone would then help me in learning how to make it an option in server-manager / user-manager.
(Would like the main user to be able to make it him self)

Oh one more ?
If I have an account "erik" forwarding to erik @ domain1.tld and another Erik needs a mailforward on another of the domains.
Right now I've made an user "erik2", set the name in .qmail-default and in aliases made a forward of erik @ domain2.tld to erik2

Is that the "correct" way to do it in SME ?

For the original question - I just add files to /var/qmail/alias. No need to worry about the templates.

If you are running mailrules you simply add an accept entry for the address.
