Just in case anybody has any doubts as to the ease of setting up the e-smith server, let me say that as of a few minutes ago, I completed the installation of the e-smith server at our office.
After having tried this product at home, I have put it to work at the task I actually spent the money for it to do. With an AMD-K6 266 and Boca Research ISA modem, this gateway machine took longer to set on my desk and connect the cables to than it did to install the OS and configure the settings for a dialup gateway. I did nothing but follow the prompts and answer the questions in the setup script.
If you place any dollar value on your time at work, at $40.00 US, the e-smith server costs far less than the labor required to recompile and configure a standard Linux distribution to provide this function, particularly for a non-expert such as myself.
I fully intend to recommend this product to local computer proferssionals as a cost effective way to connect LANS to the Internet in a hurry and without Linux experience.
