Topic: Setting up network

Ok, firstly I have to admit I'm a linux novice but I've always been interested in giving it a shot.  I checked out the site for the software and found it pretty interesting.  I'm not sure if it would be ideal for what I want to do but I figured I'd ask the experienced users.

Here is what I want...to setup a server with a linux system OS.  I'd use this system for file sharing, website hosting, and connection sharing.  It would be the center of a network that the rest of is windows 2000 based computers.

My dream is that I could have the Linux server use my DSL connection and host my website there (to get the stability) but also allow it to share the connection with my windows 2000 clients.  Throw in file sharing there too because I'm always running out of space.  There would be 2 or 3 windows client computers.

Is this possible with this software...or what additional software would I need.  Thanks for any help.

The e-smith server should be able to do all that out of the box, unless you wanted to use it to control a windows domain.  If you did want to do that, you could follow some of the contributed documentation to allow that feature.

Yes, I would want it to control my windows domain...is the use of that feature more of a hack or something thats just not well documented? Thanks for the quick response, btw.

I've written a how-to on upgrading Samba to support this.  It doesn't entirely conform to the e-smith way of doing things at this time (I haven't gotten the time to update it), but it seems to work for most people.  Check out
