Kernel used in SME is older and doesn't support SATA.
I've tried to install it on DELL PE 750 server with SATA drives and it only sees drives as basic (no DMA) devices. That is way to slooooow to be usable.
Until SME made with newer kernel, supporting SATA, stay with EIDE, ATA or SCSI drives.

Do it, and then do a HOWTO so the rest of us who're too unlearned or lazy to figure it out can do it too.  Please?

I might try it....but will SME work with another kernel? If I get the source for the new kernel and add all I need and recompile, will SME even start up with the new kernel?

Van Hees kernel is still 2.4.26 & does not have SATA support yet (afaik).

...aiyama...link will NOT work  (SME is based on RH not Debian)

...quiet a few people are working on .27 with is supposed to have support afaik and should work right away...

... go for a s->ata adapter for the time being  :-o
...or wait a month or two :-D
