Topic: POP3 via sme server

I have an sme6.01 that provides email to a LAN, 192.168.41.0
and also to a remote branch with its own LAN 192.168.42.0 at the end of a CISCO/Framerelay link.

One person operates from both locations.

Where the mailserver is he fetches some email from an ISP (NOT the mailserver) by POP3ing mail.isp.net.
[Yea I know it may seem unusual, but HAS to be!]

When trying to do the same at the branch LAN he cannot POP3 mail.isp.net.

In the branch he CAN access HO LAN, access the www (using the mailserver as the gateway), just not POP3 through the mailserver.

I would have thought (but clearly I do not know enough!) that if you have access you have complete access.

Do I need to open some port(s) or addin something?

Hi,

This seems to me like a routage outage.

Let me guess :

On the net 192.168.41.0 SME is (saying) at IP 192.168.41.1 and the router to the next office at 192.168.41.254
On the other office, the frame relay router is set as 192.168.42.254

Let's say the computer in the remote office is set with the IP add 192.168.42.25
it default gateway is 192.168.42.254

You certainly add a route on your SME telleing that the 192.168.42.0 network is behind 192.168.41.254

So everything is fine, your workstation can see SME, and SME can see the workstation.

But if the workstation try to access to an outside address, it send the packet to it local router who certainly don't have a default route.

The router on 42 side should telle that the router on 41 side is it default gateway.
In turn, the router on 41 side should say that SME is it default gateway.

That should do the trick !
