Failed to write rooaming profile to server
« on: June 29, 2004, 11:21:10 PM »
I run a small community network. Since I upgraded my W2K to sp4 Danish version I have lost the ability to write the roaming prodiles to SME server 6.0.1-01. I have searched the forums for information on this error. I have read Wyrons comments and have set the Windows GPedit parameters for writing the roaming profiles no matter what the profiles dir security is set to. I shall mention that this parameter is in another part of the policy of W2K in the danish version.

Still I can't get the roaming profile part to work. Does anybody have a clue to what I can do to get them working again?
Thanks JensK

Try removing the machine from the domain, disconnect all network drives and then re-join the domain and it should fix your problem.

I have tried to take the workstation (and several other workstations) out of the domain, rename them and join them to the domain again. Still the profiles doesn't get written on logout. I have tried to delete and recreate users on sme. I have tried to delete the local users on w2k sp4. Nothing helps - the profile directory of the users is still empty.

If I FTP a file to a profile directory on the sme server the file gets copied to the local profile on login. A file from the local profile (ie desktop) doesn't get written from the workstation to the sme profile dir (/home/e-smith/files/smaba/profiles/"user") on logout.

If nobody has a clou to what's wrong my next step is to reinstall the sme from cd. This will be a huge job because of all the databases etc så any hint on what to do next would be great.
thanks JensK

Windows NT profiles on E-smith
« Reply #3 on: July 09, 2004, 11:06:53 AM »
Hello Jensk,

I read that you have stored your Windows profiles on the E-smith server. Windows server is that your domain-controller and you store only your windows-profile on the E-smith server? Or is the E-smith server your domain-controller.

If you only sotre your windows profile there, could you explain me how you have done that? What are the rights of the profile maps, etc? Because I have a windows NT server here and I want to store the profiles on a E-smith-server. But when I login, I recieve the message that the profile is not found. He only creates the usermap but not the complete profile.

I hope you can help me.
