Newbie and frustrated!!

I am currently new to the server environment and as an I.T student am trying to do a project involving creating a generic cd server using SME 6.01. The first week went fine. I created iso images etc.. now it is shutting down "by itself" and won't start up when I push the power switch int he front. The only way I can get it to power up is to physical remove the power plug and plug back in. (I am using puTTY to access the serve through my PC p2p connection)
Any suggestions would be great ..I'm desperate !

Hi and thanks for joining us!

it's really difficult for all readers to determine what your problem could be since you 'only' informed us about your 'custom ISO' attempts...

Maybe you can start your own little project by creating a wiki page for it (REAL EASY!!!) and ask in the forum(s) if there is anybody willing to share and help. I bet there are people out there willing to help if you just use the 'magic word'.

That would help his project (which sounds really usefel, I'd like to see that wiki), but it sounds like there may be a hardware problem involved here.  What do your logs say?  Can you post some snippets around the time the server shuts down?

I think I have found the source of the problem and am sure it's a networking problem. When I boot SME on it's own it works fine but however when I boot it up via my PC using Windows ME(yes the worst OS created ever) it shuts down sometimes when I'm ending a session via SSH Putty, sometimes when I log in as admin it shuts down the server ..so it's pretty random. The way I see it I can do everything via SME only instead of through windows client like putty , change my OS or kep trying to fix it. I did have trouble networking my PC to the server at the start and had to end up making it a domain to get it to network.Obviously it doesn't like that!Anyone had this problem before.

Not me, but i had a smiliar one before. The system stopped working in some random cases. Mostly if there was a heavily network traffic. After some research i realized it was the network card with its DEC chipset itself who caused the probs. After changing the network card all went fine.
