Tomcat Installation
« on: July 09, 2004, 12:53:38 PM »
Hi Folks

I've just been attempting a Tomcat installation and I've been following David S. Helmuth's how to's. They have been excellent in that I have been able to get the Java SDK up and running with absolutely no problems (http://www.helmuth.net/mitel-sme/SunJDK/sunjdk-howto.htm) and the Tomcat setup (http://www.helmuth.net/mitel-sme/Tomcat/tomcat-v4.0-howto.htm) looks to be reasonably straight forward except I have run into one major stumbling block at step 0.1!

Obviously David's how to's are a little dated now and the links to the rpm's are no longer valid. Now this might seem like a stipid question, and it probably is, but I am not sure where the relevant place is to get the current downloads. I've hunted around the Jakarta site (http://jakarta.apache.org/site/binindex.cgi) and perhaps I am a little slow ATM but I can't figure out what the relevant download is at the moment. Perhaps I am displaying a lack of knowledge but I guess I gotta learn somehow.

I've had a read of Kevin Yank's article here, http://www.sitepoint.com/article/jsp-quick-start-guide-linux but it is nothing like David's, has nothing like running rpm's, so I am not sure if it is relevant to SME.

So, if you have the links to the current rpm's and/or info relevant to SME I would be most grateful.

Also, I am wondering if anyone has been through a more recent Tomcat setup that may have any more feedback to provide that would be fantastic.

After installing Tomcat I am moving on to an Open CMS setup so if anyone is interested in hearing about that I am more than happy to pass on some feedback about how that turns out as well. Hopefully it won't end up driving me to  :pint:

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Ergin!

Thats the second time you've been most helpful to me here. I am most grateful, hopefully some day I can return the favour.

Hi all,
I'm running Tomcat 4.1 on SME 6.01 and it's working fine.
I have a problem with Netscape 7.1 in the Admin section:
I can't see the form controls when inserting a new user.
IE 6 works fine. Any ideas wy this is so?
Regards,
Ernesto
