Topic: @home cable modem

Hello,

I have @home and an older pc that I had not used for a while untill I discovered e-smith server.  Now I set it up and everthing works fine.  Samba is fast as any file server I even installed MSword on the server and I run it off the server just for the heck of it.  But I cannot get it to work with the outside world.  I have no communication with the internet at all. I cannot ping the DNS servers,  nothing.
Please help me out.

hi Bela, i also use @home cable modem with e-smith, and has no problem connecting to internet. can you ping your gateway's ip address? if not, you may want to make sure you set the gateway correctly in networking setup. since there are 2 ethernet cards in the gateway, make sure you are connecting to right one to the cable modem. try swapping the two network cables going to the e-smith server. -HH

You will need to investigate this from the bottom level up - is your hardware all
connected? Does the e-smith server recognise the network card? Does your system
have an IP address for the cable modem connection? If DHCP is able to get an IP
address for the cable modem connection then there shouldn't be anything stopping it
from working.

Ok, the NIC's are fine they both work for sure, I can ping my gateway too and I get a static IP address from @home with two DNS that is all.  And I assume that I did not mix up the cards otherwise I would not be able to communicate with e-smith through web interface.

do you use the dhcp feature or did you key the info in yourself?

Accutaly I used  factory settings except for  info given by @home.
