pop mail prob on sme 6
« on: July 19, 2004, 10:35:22 PM »
Hi all,

I recently setup sme6 for a friend on his lan as a server and gateway. All is working fine, except that we can't pull pop mail from his isp's server. Where can we set the address/port of the remote pop server in sme6? smtp and internal webmail are fine.

Also, he uses kaspersky antivirus for some Win2000 pcs on his lan. The updates won't download properly, even when a port forwarding rule is created for the purpose. Any ideas?

No idea about the kaspersky issue, but for mail I think you may have to use fetchmail. Someone please correct me if I am wrong because I am too going to be in this situation and this is what i was planning to use.

Thanks,

Phil

In server-manager.  Configuration / E-mail

Set email retrieval mode to ETRN or multi-drop & fill in the appropriate bits in ETRN or multi-drop settings.

Will that work for me too?

In my situation there is one external mail account that contains all the mail for anyone@mydomain.com. I have to retrieve all of this mail and then forward it to the correct indivduals mailboxes in SME.

yes, then multidrop should work. All mails are collected in one single account, SME server takes them from the ISP and puts them (by reading the header) into the right places at the local SME server.

I never had any use for this, but did a try out yesterday. On an external mail server (qmail) i made one account and several forwards/aliases into this account. All mails are collected every 15 minutes by the server, and delivered into the user mailboxes.

Ok, what may seem like a silly question.... Is there a way to stop the mail being deleted from the main account?

As in there is account x that has mail for anyone@mydomain.com, the mail program will pick this up and forward it to a@mydomain.com, b@mydomain.com, etc. Is there someway while I am trying this out to stop the mail program deleting the mail that it retrieves from account x? As in if it doesn't work I can try again without losing the mail?

Thanks,

Phil
