SME Domain name same as externally hosted domain - internal
« on: August 12, 2004, 10:06:02 PM »
Hi,
SME Server set up as mycompany.com.
Hosting for mycompany.com handled by ISP.(e-mail is handled by them)
Problem is any server created e-mail goes to the internal user account(as expected) and never gets to the isp user acct.
IE on the SME Server I have a user called alice.
Alice e-mail is alice@mycompany.com.
Alice uses outlook for her mail that is handled by her ISP.
Sp when tapeware e-mails log to alice@mycompany.com it stays on the SME Server.
In a nutshell, do I have to reconfigure the server, or is there another way to workaround this?
Thanks,

Hi,

maybe 'hostnames' is an interesting topic ;-)

The manual under the documenation link contains a bit of an explenation.

btw. a brand new SME Server manual is almost ready to be published.

Hi,
I have printed and read that manual and can not seem to find reference to what will assist in solving the problem. I have searched the forums for hostname and no success with answer to related problem.
I do not want to blindly make changes to a working server, that is what I was looking for assistance.
Thanks,

Hi,

What I normally do is giving the box an internal FQDN instead of the a public FQDN. e.g. internal.mybox.com

After that you can add virtual domains and set IP's in the hostnames panel.

Basically, rename your box to an internal only domain name.

Good luck
