I had to take the opportunity to help out one of the stalwarts of the SME forums

I currently use a Gigabyte board that has an 865 variant; I originally installed a vanilla Mitel SME6 with no probs and have subsequently updated the beastie via yum and the 2.4.26 kernel update per MasterSleepy (haven't got 'round to 2.4.27 yet).
No probs to speak of!
I would suggest using a hyperthreading cpu as SME (RH7.3) sees it as two cpus and you can run the SMP kernel - smmooottthhhhh
