Have you looked in the RedHat 9 Hardware Compatibility section? I think its what SME is based on.
EDIT: Sorry, the link is RedHat 9, not RedHat 7.3. I think SME is based on 7.3 and NOT 9.

This a kernel issue with that specific drive. Is it possible to boot a different kernel for setup??? I'm to new to SME to help you on this...

When you boot an install linux CD, you genrealy have the option to enter command lines, like you did, and/or boot a different kernel. Well I don't know much about this too...

Thanks for your help so far..

What I have done to get it going (not the way I'd like it...) I have built a RAID 0+1 (Mirroring) array using a smart start Version 5.50 CD (Selected Win200 - the only options were Windows or Novell)..

THen instead of installing Windows I turned the machine off and installed SME 6 with the above command line at the appropriate location in time. The only problem is, in order to get the server to boot into the OS properly, I have to use the emergency boot disk .img.... Can anyone please tell me how to fix this?

I have two proliant 1600 and one 1825 and default install worked every time with just a few modifications.

First download the Linux firmware for you raid controller and main board. There are different drivers for windows and Linux.
Second configure your drives. I forget my version of smart start but all I did was use the array configuration utility. It won’t partition the drive just configure it. Be sour to pick save configuration in the file menu. If you don’t and you restart it will not save your configuration. Then using the configure server  option go to change configuration. Change the OS type to Linux.  In the same spot further down the list turn off the on board nic. For sum reason if you don’t turn it off SME won’t install. You can enable it after the install finishes. SME will recognize it with it disabled. You just have to enable it to connect.

Next insert you 6.0.1 cd and it will work just fine. Be sour not to pick software mirror in the install. You will also have to modify lilo to get it to boot in duel processor if you want to have it without  picking it by hand.

I run a 1600 at home.

When I installed SME, I used the command:

linux pci=bios

Something to do with the USB support, I think.

Hope this helps.
