Topic: Require User Password Reset

Good Afternoon,

I finally am bobbing above water now and can breathe a bit. School startup is always hell but anyways, on to my question.

I've poked around a bit in the forums using different phraseology(?) looking for something that would require a new or an existing (after so many days, etc.) user to reset their password.

I am going to create a bunch of new users but the students will be using their locker numbers. I don't want them to continue with this password but rather require them to reset it. The only thing I'm using the SME box for is content filtering so they aren't logging into the box as a workstation/PDC scenario.

Any ideas?

Why not try the user-manager site???

It’s controlled in the “User Panel Access” under Collaboration in the Server Manager.

not sure how to require it but the easiest way to change a password is with http://servername/user-password

I knew about the two options presented above but that is something I have to tell them to do. The thing I was looking around for was either some type of password policy in which the password would either need to be reset after the user was created or it expired after awhile thus forcing the reset. Again, I'm only using the box for squidguard authentication so the only interaction they have with the unit is via the browser. With that said, I would also be interested in this issue in relation to a SME box acting as a PDC as well.

No I haven't. I think it's something inherent with Linux. I've never seen anything in all my years of dealing with Linux that indicates that it is a policy that can be turned on or off. I'm still looking. I haven't done much reading up on CentOS but it may provide that functionality as well as Samba v3.x, not sure.
