Does anyone know, if it is possible to upgrade the apache 1.3.27 to apache 2.0.50, or is it making trouble because of the costum-templates and vice versa.

Nothing is impossible...  However, upgrading SME 6 to Apache 2 to is going to result in ALOT of breakage.  My best suggestion would be to start working google, looking for RH 7.3 Apache 2 rpms (httpd).  Install them and start fixing the breakage.

However, I can't imagine what would motivate you to do such a thing to SME.  You are going to have to spend hours and hours fixing things.  Alot of that makes SME what it is is highly dependent on apache.  You are going to have to rewrite ALL (or many) of the httpd.conf template fragments, and that's just the beginning.

As Greg mentioned already "why bother"? It's a lot of work to get "everythingelse" work with Apache2.

If you still want to upgrade your Apache then you can find custom RPMS of Apache2 for RH7.3 at http://norlug.org/~chipster/rpm_handler/cat1/httpd-2.0.50-3.norlug.i386.rpm

As far as I could understand you might get a performance boost of around 15% BUT you also will have to deal with some compatibility problems... Well, good luck, let us know how it goes.
