Topic: unable to ssh

I just installed sme 6.0.1 in server only mode and enabled ssh access. Now i can access the box using ssh using admin login/password however i only get the text menu with options and no bash prompt

I also tried to login as root however it won't let me, i guess then direct root login could be disabled.

Sorry for being a dump but this is the first time i have installed sme.

The settings are under security:Remote access:Secure Shell Settings

You must set access to either local or public and yes to adminstrative and standard passwords.  

If you login with admin you get the admin menu, login as root and you will get the bash prompt.

wats the root password ? i tried the same admin password but it doesn't work.

strange, i just turned off the ssh access and then turned it back on and the root account started to work    Anyways ssh is working fine now.

Have you checked the log? (/var/log/messages)?

It might have failed to start/restart ssh and when you turned off and on it would have tried to start up again (which in this case started fine), the messages log will tell u more

i don't see any errors in the /var/log/messages. The only other thing i did was i had turned off the virtual machine running sme (i am running sme on a vmware environment to test it before deploying on production). After restart i removed ssh access and reenabled and it worked. No as such errors inside /var/log/messages.

Anyways its good to have ssh, it makes me more comfortable.

I had posted seperately but no one actually replied, is it possible to take the entire sme stuff and load it on a existing fedora / mandrake box ? The reason i ask is there are existing machines in the environment and putting sme on a dedicated box is not an option i can take right now. But then if it still needs a dedicated box then i will have no choice
