Restore to 6.0.1-01
« on: August 31, 2004, 01:50:26 AM »
I have freshly installed 6.0.1-01.
On running Restore from a desktop backup created in 6.0, I get a "The page cannot be displayed".
This is using IE6

I have now tried it with Opera 7.51 and get a different response - after clicking the final Restore, stays busy for about 2 minutes then an error:
"Connection closed by remote host
http://192.168.2.4/server-manager///cgi-bin/backup" thn the cursor returns to normal

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What OS are you using on your client?  It may be a file size limit issue with either the os or the browser.

"page cannot be displayed" when trying to do a res
« Reply #4 on: June 20, 2006, 11:17:09 PM »
I also have just experienced this problem.  I did a clean install and get above error using GUI interface on XP machine.  If I got direct to server and try a restore after you select the file name and hit enter nothing happens.

When this first happened I turned of Norton and any other program that may be interfering (although other functions work fine using ‘server-manager” feature). I kept getting this error.  I then went back to earlier backups and one of them worked 1 time only and would not allow be to do the latest version after the server rebooted (with the same settings on the XP machine).  I got my server up but it’s missing sever years of updates/ users/Ibays etc and hate to do it over again.

If no one pops up with a direct answer , Winrar will open the file I want to use.  Can I just copy the data in to the appropriate folders?

This subject has been answered so many times. Try searching these forums on backup or backup2ws or backup2 and you will find the answer. Make sure you click on Show all results and go back to early 2005.

In short if the resultant backup to desktop file is larger than 2Gb you will not be able to restore it.

After a backup is done using backup to desktop you MUST verify it, to prove it is good. Try using Netscape or Firefox browsers.

The alternative method is to use the backup2 or backup2ws contrib, and you set it to split the backup file into 2Gb or less parts.
See dmay contrib area.

Ray:

Thanks I'll search for it.  I had been doing searches of 'restore"  or "page not displayed" sted of back up.

I should have also said that if the resultant backup file exceeds 4Gb it will also be truncated on many systems, therfore the backup file is incomplete.
You might think it worked, but effectively you only have a partial backup and if you rely on that you will be in BIG trouble one day.
