Topic: Booting from CD errors.

Hi iam new to linux and i need alittle help installing it when booting from CD (i downloaded the iso from here SME v 6.01 umm etc etc)
it gets through most of the boot process then i get the following messages
EXT2-fs : Unable to read superblock
Cramfs : Wrong Magic  
FAT : Unable to read boot sector
isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev=09:00, iso_blknum=16, block=32
Kernel Panic : VFS: unable to mount root fs on 09:00
.
the installation stops there.
Also when i reboot i sometimes ? get different startup messages i.e
Primary Master : NONE
Primary Slave : NONE
Secondary Master : (my CDROM)
Secondary Slave : ST320413A 3.39(oR it is sometimes NONE)
Sometimes its
Primary Master : NONE
Primary Slave : NONE
Secondary Master : NONE
Secondary Slave : NONE
OR Sometimes i get Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor channel installed I have noticed that it changes everything to NONE after trying to Install XP (with which i get the error msg error loading setupdd.sys Error Code 7 i searched this and the microsoft site says i may have damaged hardware or a Damaged CD(i have tried it with 2 different CDs and the same thing happens).
I have a sinking feeling that it may be setup wrong tho
Currently i have 1 CDROM installed and one HDD, no floppy and iam only useing one Cable to connect my HDD to my CDROM to the mainboard
i have set the HDD to Primary Master and the CDROM to secondary Slave.
Here are the System Specs
Intel Celeron 733 MGhz
20 GIG HD
s3 Trio Grphics
and i have 2 of the 3 RAM slots with RAM in them i cant tell how much RAM it is tho lol
Well thats about it iam semi-Computer literate

Your CD image may be corrupt, check the MD5sum.
Your CDRom may be defective, which is unlikely.
Go to website of HD vendor, download a tool to check your harddrive.

i have set the HDD to Primary Master and the CDROM to secondary Slave.

If this means that you have BOTH harddisk and cdrom on ONE cable only, then harddisk must be master an cdrom must be slave.
If it means that you have TWO cables, one for harddisk and one for cdrom, then they should both be set to master.
