User mail stuck in outbox (Outlook 2002)
« on: September 09, 2004, 01:23:18 AM »
I have a SME 6 box running a pretty standard configuration which replaced a BSD box running Sendmail a couple of months ago.  Since the change I've had lots of problems with users having to close Outlook and open it again to send email - otherwise emails get stuck in the outbox and refuse to send.

If I configure the client to use our ISP's SMTP server this problem is reduced but it still happens.
It's an Athlon XP 2500+ with 256MB of memory and supports around 70 users who all check their mail once a minute over a lan.

The wierd thing is that this doesn't affect all users - some it affects once in a while, some once a week and some several times a day. Just happens that my boss is one who gets this several times a day and it's really starting to get to her!

I have tried all of Microsoft's suggestions relating to this issue ie repairing PST files and lengthening server timeouts but nothing works.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks a heap

Try using the IP address instead of the hostname for the server. Seemed to solve the problem for one of my users.

Thanks for the reply, but I've already tried this.

I'm still stuck, does anybody have any ideas?
