Streaming Video

Ok I've been searching the forms all day now and can't find a good answer to this question.

How do I get Video Files (MPG.AVI.MOV) to stream on the SME server?

I'd like to be able to do QuickTime so I suppose that a Darwin Streaming Server would be the best. Not really attached to any streaming engine yet. Only qualifications that I have are that it streams QuickTime and that you can reach the server via rtsp://yourdomain.com.

A long time ago I thought I'd seen a contrib (long before contribs.org) that was for the Darwin server but I haven't been able to locate it.

Hi,

I came across 'slimserver' an open source streaming server: http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html

It supports all major OS's but I do not see support for video *YET* There are however plugins, maybe one of them is suiteable for your needs. Anyway there are forums too so maybe you can just ask ;-)

ps. Slimserver works perfectly with SME Server 6.0.1-01

Looks interesting but it looks more like it's for streaming inside your LAN to hardware devices. I'm looking for some help in streaming mpg files over the internet.

Just wish I had downloaded the howto for the Darwin Streaming Server when I found it years ago.

Tried VideoLAN yet?

I think that VideoLAN would meet your needs perfectly, http://www.videolan.org/ I have seen it around for sometime and have found that it has the best file type support for Linux.

I would really like to add this to my SME 6.01 server as well.  I am willing to try if you are?

I'm almost positive that I installed the Darwin Streaming Server on a v5.6 box... but that would have been almost a year ago.  If I remember right, it was very straight forward.  It seems like it had a Perl based installer that pretty much downloaded and installed every little thing it needed.

Go ahead and try it, if you get stuck I can try to resurrect one of my test boxes.
