Is this a bug in E-smith 4.1.2?
« on: September 19, 2001, 07:20:38 AM »
Hi All,

I have posted two messages about this problem but did not find any response yet. I have also searched previous posts about this problem and contacted one person who is also having same problem without any resolve. I am running E-smith over @home service. I am having problems with PPTP configuration. I have enabled two connections in REMOTE ACCESS section of my E-smith 4.1.2 via E-smith Manager. But when I try to connect to e-smith gateway/server via PPTP from my windows 98 PC, it logs in and authenticates the user but then disconnects it immediately. It displays the following message on the E-smith server console:

"NO FREE CONNECTION SLOTS OR IPs AVAILABLE-
NO MORE CLIENTS CAN CONNECT"

I will appreciate your help.

When you installed the server it asks you the range of IP address you wish to use, default being from 192.168.1.65 to 192.168.1.200?? I think.  Did you change this to only allow a few addresses for your clients?  That's all I can think of....I have it running on a Rogers @Home connection and can use VPN no problem with Win 98/2000 and XP clients, works great!  (My VPN clients either use Rogers, Sympatico HSE (DSL) or Sympatico dial-up accounts)

Hi Terry,

Thanks for your help. I was using DHCP address range from 192.168.0.65 to 192.168.0.250 and IP address for E-smith gateway/server was 192.168.0.1.
After reading your post I changed it back to original 192.168.1.1 and DHCP scope as well to 192.168.0.65 ....

After making these changes, I did not see any message appearing on E-smith console but still my VPN client gets disconnected after user authentication.
I am also on Rogers@home network. I will appreciate any further thoughts.

Regards.

The clients don't have static assigned IP info already do they?  Is there any reason why your server is on x.x.1.1 while your clients are on x.x.0.x?  All of my clients and server reside on 192.168.1.x .

No, my clients are on DHCP. WHat I meant by diffent scops is that I tried non-standard DHCP range on E-smith server. When I used range 192.168.0.x, I received that message " No connection slots available.."
But now when I changed DHCP range on E-smith gateway back to default, now I am not geeting that error message but my client is still being disconnected after user authentication.

Well, got me on that one.  Hopefully someone from the Server Solutions Group will see your post and get you some more info.  Sorry I couldn't be more help.
