2 SME6 servers, how can i "link the user db
« on: October 05, 2004, 04:15:09 PM »
Hi,

I want to be able to "sync" the user database between 2 sme servers (ldap?)

So when i create an user on server1, it should sync with server2 (same user database)

thanks!

Btw, Without Netbios auth :)

I don't have an answer to your question, but perhaps a solution, if what you need is simply user authentication for access to the server that is not your domain controller.
Greg Zartman has a nice little howto addressing this subject.
It can be found here: http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/gzartman/HowToGuides/SME_DomainClientHowto.htm

Sorry if this is way off what you really wanted.
I don't have anything better to suggest.
Greetings

Synchronize Users
« Reply #2 on: October 12, 2004, 10:05:56 PM »
Good Afternoon,

I've seen something out there that will synchronize the user lists between servers. I'm racking my brain trying to remember it but in the past, it has been an insecure method. This being said, people have shied away from it. They now have a more secure method which may warrant another look. I haven't tried it yet but there is some information about it on the forums. Do some digging and you'll find it. If I can find it on my computers at home, office, doghouse, etc., I'll post it.

I'm still looking for a flag or something to trigger a password reset. I'm needing something to require a password reset for any user that is on the SME box. Whether the box is being used for SQUID authentication or SAMBA authentication. I don't believe that resetting passwords should fully be an network manager's responsibility. Also, keeping the same dadblame password for eons creates security risks. On the flip side, I'm not for resetting a password every time you come into work either.

Oh well, enough of my rambling. If I find that information, I'll post it.

High-Availability

Here it is:

http://www.star-support.com/sme/Linux-HA/SME%20High%20Availability%20How-To.html

http://www.linux-ha.org/

Now the how-to is for v5.1.2 and I don't know if it would work on v6.x. I have never even used the software but it looks like an interesting concept.

Good Afternoon,

Ok, here's the link http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/Linux%20High%20Availability%20How-To%20for%20Mitel%20SME%20v5.1.2 that works. I found the above on accident and was hoping to not have to post the entire how-to.

Hope this helps, I'm kind of interested in the outcome.

The author is RequestedDeletion, so I'm sure that he can give an update on whether it works on 6 =>
