Got my SME6 box loaded up....gigabit drivers in and working.........now the damn HDD light wont stop hammering away even when it is just sitting "doing nothing". Any idea's? What log fiel should i look at to see what is happening?
PS It spat out a msg to the admin that the user (me!) had exceeded their quota of 1024MB....when i checked the quota it had 0.05MB used.......go figure!

Right...........gettign nowhere fast.....reloaded the box...same result. Any ideas?  :hammer:

.. this is a clean load of a stock 6.0.1 I presume??

The only time I have seen this happen is when the system was flooded by spam and virused email and it just ran outta memeory (real and swap).

Run 'top' to see whats happening with the system.

Also try running:

service smtpfront-qmail stop

and see if it helps, if so then your problem is the same.  Load the box up with lotsa RAM (768+) and see if it helps.

Alternatively, you could just limit the # of threads the smtp server responds to concurrently so the RAM use is limited.  See:

Turned out the machine decided that the RAID aray wasnt "clean"................and took 48hrs CONTINOUS to clean it..........250GB drives prob didnt help

Its not a "slow" machine by any means P4 3.0Ghz HT 1024MB RAM 2 x WD 7200RPM 250GB HDD 8MB Cache
