Flexbackup restore problem
« on: November 17, 2004, 09:58:42 AM »
Hi, I am a newbie so please be gentle.
I have just performed a restore on a machine with different internals to the PC that the backup was performed on. I did clean install of SME 6.2 went to server manager and wanted restore from tape which ran for a short while and then back to config page.
I reboot PC and look nothing appeared to change.
I then ran flexbackup program in command line to perform a full extract as per the instructions.
All the I-bay data was recovered OK but the indidual user areas where in read only mode.
Can anyone shed some light on the matter for me please.
What have I done or am doing wrong. 8-)  8-)
Thanks for you help.

Use chmod to set the directory access
man chmod will help you
Best would be to use the same settings you have in your smb.conf file. See the part about the home directories.

Thanks Irian but is this normal or only because of different hardware configuration?

Terry,
Did you modify flexbackup.conf at all on the old machine? In particular the blocksize or buffer settings. Why I ask I is, I've had similar problems but I had been playing with those settings to speed up the backup time. The hardware configuration has nothing to do with your problem.

No Lloyd,
I didn't change anything at all.
Just pulled the backup tape from the older unit and used it to run a restore on the new unit. But using server manager interface restore only ran for about 3 mins so I knew it had not restored properly so I used the command line for a full extract.
Does this work different to a full restore?
Thanks for your interest

Don't take this as gospel, but I think you need to run these after a manual restore (at the very least):

# /sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade

# /sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot
