Hi all,
I have an SME 6.0.1 install with 14GB of data, the desktop backup screen tells me that the backup size should be around 8GB.
Regards Brad
As mentioned backup2ws by Darrel will work if you keep it to under 2 gig sizes. This presumably has the advantage of a complete backup of mysql etc. Make sure you get the SME one for versions 6 and not the e-smith one for versions 5.?
Another option if you only want to backup a directory on a Samba share is to use Winrar or Winzip. Winrar works from the command line or from Windows and allows you to view those RAR backups you are doing from backup2ws. It also creates zip files if you prefer. You are limited in file size to Windows file size which is substantially larger as your program is running under the Windows computer.
However if planning to back up to DVD then ISO has a limitation of 4 GIG file size though the disks are capable of 4.5 storage. Consequently I suggest setting your Winrar file size to 1.5 gig and putting 3 files per CD. If doing it from Windows or from backup2ws. Another facility of Winrar lets you allow a % for error correction in case of a bad sector. I would suggest allowing 1% in case you should ever get a bad sector. I've not had this happen with CD's but did have the problem with floppies in the old days. The big advantage of using zip or rar is that your files retain the same attibutes when restored where as if you do a direct copy to CD they all become read only.
