2 simple questions I need help with
« on: November 23, 2004, 07:13:52 AM »
1. When I remote to my server it goes to the server manager, how do I get to a prompt?

2. I set up an ibay for a group of friends to upload stuff. I set up ftp access to the ibay with a password. Is there a way to set it where when they log in is will automatically drop them off in that ibay? Instead of broswing to it?

thanks?

1. to get command prompt (shell) use Putty http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html to connect to your server, you will have to enable ssh in the control panel (you can also use WinSCP for file browsing and mooving).

2. you wanna use FTP Manager pannel :

1. Utilizing putty, I get the server-manager when I use Admin and the console when I use Root.
. . simple as that.
2. There is a ftp-howto loose somewhere on this site. Try a search for e-smith ftp-manager (if I remember correctly).

Not so, my friend !
I was in no way referring to your links.
Instead I just answered the first question (the way you would have done, if you had bothered to read it properly), and tried to indicate that there are possible alternatives to your link for the second one.
Now this is not criticism - it's always good with pointers to more info, but sometimes it's better to just reply to the simple question with a simple answer instead of interpreting the hell into it, confusing the issue as a result.
Anyway I'm sure El_destructo will be back, if none of us hit the mark.

We just can't have ftp-howto running loose on this site.
We need to search for it and shoot it before something happens.
Oh there it is......Bang.....

Got it.....were safe now.(';-)')

I'm going back to sleep.(':pint:')

gobble gobble to ya all.

Everybody loves a drink - nobody loves a drunk.
(But they can, at times, be (low level) amusing, like electro(cuted)man00 here).

El_Destructo

Here's some help with your first question.

If you like you can download three great programs
and install on your Windoz machine.

Winscp3
http://winscp.sourceforge.net/eng/download.php

Metapad
http://www.liquidninja.com/metapad/mpad35.zip

Putty
http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe

Install Metapad & Winscp3

You can put putty.exe in the Winscp3 folder.

Run Winscp3 and goto

Preferences > Integration >       PuTTY path

Set the path to putty.exe

Preferences > Editor >            External editor

Set the path to Metapad.exe

Then on the menu bar

Commands > open in Putty

That's it....Your ready to go.
