backup2ws error
« on: November 24, 2004, 12:40:56 AM »
I installed the backup2ws beta for 6.x and I can't get it to work. I have tried connecting to my windows share using machine name and IP. I'm using forward slashes, I can see the share using smbclient with -L. The error seems to be on the SME side. Here is the errors I am seeing in the messages log:

Nov 23 00:25:07 mail e-smith-bg: 4234: session request to 192.168.1.4 failed (Called name not present)
Nov 23 00:25:07 mail e-smith-bg: 4234: session request to 192 failed (Called name not present)
Nov 23 00:25:07 mail e-smith-bg: /bin/mkdir: cannot create directory /mnt/backup2ws.911/911': Permission denied
Nov 23 00:25:08 mail e-smith-bg:
Nov 23 00:25:08 mail e-smith-bg: Cannot create /mnt/backup2ws.911/911/911.11.23.04.rar

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

You have been denied?? Have you entered your admin login and password to get access??
This is in the server-manager.

I set up backup2ws with a user that should have rights on the windows box, but this error appears to me that it can't create a directory on the SME box in /mnt. Am I reading it wrong?

When you setup the backup2workstation via the server manager, you must include permissions. This is the admin login and password of your SME box. This will grant  permissions to execute the backup job.
Heres a checklist:
Create shared folder on Wkstn eg. backup_sme
In server manager create backup
Fill in details - be sure to check the name of your wkstn
Add admin and password

The successful job should look like the following
# ----------------------------------------------------------------
    # Backup report for Win_backup, job number 996383:
    # ----------------------------------------------------------------
    The backup is now complete.
    See /var/log/backup2ws/996383.log for complete details.
I use SME 6.0 and 6.01

Give it a try and see how you go

Good Luck

still a no go. The only place I see to add a user is in view/modify for the specific backup job. I assume this has to be a user that has access on the windows box. I have created a specific user on the windows domain and on the local windows machine for this and still no luck.  I also tried creating an account named admin and gave it the same password as the admin account on the SME box and it still fails....I'm stumped.

have discovered that I was running 2 different versions. dmc-mitel-backup2ws.0.0.1-18 which is the BETA version and dmc-mitel-backup2ws.0.0.1-16 on sme 6.0.
It turns out that dmc-mitel-backup2ws.0.0.1-18 doesn't seem to work. I was recieving email from one server that the job has completed, but didn't exist on the workstation and the error was the same as yours. dmc-mitel-backup2ws.0.0.1-16 definitly works on SME 6.0. It can be downloaded from here: http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmay/mitel/contrib/Backup2ws/

I hope this helps
