Boot Failure after Fresh Install
« on: December 02, 2004, 05:40:12 PM »
I just bought a Wintergreen barebones system from Tiger Direct. It has a 3.0 GHz P-4, 512 MB Memory, onboard NIC, onboard sound and onboard video. I have installed two MAXTOR 120 GB IDE drives, each as a Master on the primary and secondary IDE channels, respectively. I selected to use both in a RAID setup. I install 6.01 without any apparent problems and then when I try to boot, it dies with a final message "Kernel panic: attempted to kill init!"

Any ideas why this is happening?

I tried disabling most of the onboard items, but still the same problem.

Thanks,
John

hmmm, did you check the media e.g. the downloaded ISO?

What does the boot sequense say BEFORE the kernel panic? Does it match you setup?
