Hi,

Is there a way to always assign the same IP address to the same computer.

On CentOS, I assign the IP to the MAC address in the dhcp.conf file.

How can I do that in SME?

There is a way to set static IP addresses to client PCs, the only thing is that the IP address must not be from the DHCP range.
From the Server-manager
Click on Hostnames and Addresses.
Click on Add Hostname.
Type in a Hostname.
on Location, select local.
Type in the IP address and Mac address of the client PC.

Looked at the DHCP configuration and never thought of looking at the hostnames.

SME is great, it would be even better if it was running on a RHEL3 clone.

I was at the location and it does not work.

What I'd like to do is to have the IP address given by DHCP server to be always the same for a specific MAC address. ON regular servers, I enter the the IPs and MACs in the dhcpd.conf

This is mostly for laptops. I cannot use fixed IP on the laptops, they travel.

I have tried the hostnames and addresses. It does not assign the IP address for their MAC, but it assigns one from the DHCP pool.

Hmm, never had a prob with this aspect of SME before, its always done as its told.

If you want a little more control over DHCP then grab:

   - e-smith-dhcpmanager-1.4-7.noarch.rpm
   - perl-Net-Ping-2.31-37.n0i.1.i686.rpm
   - wol-0.6.0-3.i386.rpm

and install them (from Thierry Quaak & Sebastien Dacquin).

The panel allows you to clear old leases so new ones can be assigned.
