Securemail and certificate problem on Outlook Express
« on: December 19, 2004, 06:18:31 PM »
Hi,

I've installed securemail and it works like a charm. But when I send an email over the SSL Outlook Express comes with this notice (I've tryed to translate as good as possible from my danish version): "The server your computer is connected to uses a safety certificate that can not be approved. The certifyingchain ended in a rootcertificate that is not trusted. Do you want to continue using this server?"

I've tryed to follow this guide: http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/Creating%20SSL%20Certificates

This didn't work it only made my mail-server crash.

What can I do?

/Carl

You don't need to follow that HOWTO - your securemail already has a self-signed certificate. You just need to configure Lookout! to accept that particular certificate, even though you haven't paid someone $$$ to certify it. I don't use Bill Gate$ware, so I can't tell you exactly how to do that. If you use Mozilla, you just have to click "Accept this certificate forever".

[You should seriously consider using a less dangerous mail program.]

Mozilla works fine on Windows (the Windows version, that is).

Grab an iso from www.theopencd.org and install mozilla thunderbird from there. Lots of other good stuff too - e.g. openoffice.
