Hi
Has anybody used fibre optics with e-smith ?? any recomendation or advice would be welcome.

Probably the easiest method would be to go with media convertors.

D-link are cheap (in a relative sort of way). They also make a pci card that will go around 4 Kms over multimode fiber

Allied telyson are dear (but so,so much better, and larger bandwith)

Not Knowing what your requirements are, why do you need to go this way.
The glass is expensive, the terminations and flyleads are expensive and the hardware is (again) expensive.(Although ill install it if your nearby)

If your under 90m stay with category 5 unless you need to go gigabit or have some serious interference problems.

We are setting up a Fibre Test Lab here to have a look at what Linux has to offer. I was able to get hold of quite a lot of kit from bankrupt stock so hardware is OK as is installing, it's driver for the cards how-to's etc I'v had a look arounf Red Hat but not much help there.
