problems with backup

I have just upgraded from sme5.6 to sme6.0.1-10.  I did the upgrade on my existing server so as to keep all my email.  I know this will sound complex, but bear with me... I loaded sme5.6 on a spare server and restored a backup of the existing server onto the new one.  Due to some issues with HDD's being on different IDE channels, sme5.6 would not allow me to load on the new server with raid1, so I was not running raid1 when I did the upgrade to 6.0.  I would like to run raid on sme6 however....

I went ahead and installed all the bells and whistles in the update script (anti virus, spam filter, mysql update, the whole 100Mb worth).

At this point I'd like to make a backup of the upgraded 6.0 server with all my data.  I would like to then re-install SME6 with the raid config and restore all data from the backup.

When I try to backup the upgraded server using the stock backup CGI script, I get prompted to enter the "save as" filename, then a 0 byte TGZ file is sent to my desktop.  Why aren't any files being saved?

A common problem which you should find more information on searching the forums. The backup function has errors. Try backuppc. This is a bit complicated but once set up nearly undestroyable.
