What's included in a backup ?
« on: December 24, 2004, 03:36:32 PM »
I have a SCSI tape drive setup on my sme 6.01 box and it appears to be working ok.  I have installed many contribs and updates to this box.  My question is this, if I had to reload sme 6.01 and then restored the tape backup, would it install all on these contribs and updates for me or would I still have to install sme 6.01, then the contribs, then the updates and finally the restore form the tape?

Thanks,
Thomas

You would need to re-install the contribs.

I have tested restoring both ways:

1. Install SME, restore, install contribs
2. Install SME, install contribs, restore

Both seemed to work fine in my testing.

When you backup SME you are basically backing up the following directories:

/home/e-smith
/etc/e-smith/templates-custom
/etc/e-smith/templates-user-custom
/etc/ssh
/root/.ssh
/etc/passwd
/etc/shadow
/etc/group
/etc/gshadow
/etc/smbpasswd

I think that list is complete.
