Has anyone run into this before?

SME v6.0.1 running SpamAssasin, here is a snapshot of the top command:

1:50pm  up 20 days,  1:49,  1 user,  load average: 2.17, 1.77, 1.39
140 processes: 136 sleeping, 4 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: 51.7% user, 41.2% system,  6.9% nice,  0.0% idle
Mem:   126368K av,  114448K used,   11920K free,       0K shrd,   33828K buff
Swap:  264952K av,  112764K used,  152188K free                    1020K cached
PID USER     PRI  NI  SIZE  RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM   TIME COMMAND
31596 qmaild    16   0 24192   32    16 R    99.6  0.0  9319m spamd
23632 root      10   0  1000 1000   732 R     0.3  0.7   0:01 top

This server has been doing this off and on since I first installed SpamAssasin and it will usually use 99% CPU for a few hours and then drop back off to a normal 5-10% after a few hours but now it has been running this way for a week and I need a fix.

Appreciate any help. Thanks in advance

Ed

I just used the script found in this forum by Greg Swallow and Knuddi's SA script.

Hi edb,

Does this FAQ entry match your setup?

Q:
Installation hangs or SpamFilter (Spamassassin) uses a lot of CPU resources

A:
If Spamassassin seems to take up a lot of CPU time or the installation hang while "Discovering Razor Servers" then your server is most likely behind a firewall. Make sure to open the following ports. Outgoing TCP port 2703 (Razor2) and TCP port 7 (Echo). Razor2 uses TCP pings to discover what servers are closest to it.

Thanks Knuddi, I'll try opening the ports on the firewall.

All TCP outbound ports are already open. The SME server firewall only restricts inbound connections.

This FAQ is also primarily for users that have a seperate firewall outside the SME.

Hi Knuddi

You were right. I opened the ports on my external firewall and everything seems to be fine now. Thanks
