newbie on proxy settings howto
« on: January 03, 2005, 02:37:17 AM »
Hello, its me again. I can´t see a way to configure my proxy settings from the http server manager. I have SME 6.01 and a fresh install. Is there any rpm that I could download to make this menu managed such as the port forwarding features ?

Thanks in advance.

What proxy settings do you wish to configure?

Well, I do not have enough experience with Linux. I know that SME has a Proxy server inside (SQUID) and I studied the literature and couldn´t find the way to see for example how to change the proxy port 3128, just to mention one only setting. Also, I don´t see how to configure the NAT or how to enable or disable the proxy completely. The documentation at this web site (user´s manual, etc.) mentions the proxy but says nothing about it. http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/bobk/SME_Manual/chpt-90-appx-c.html
I guess if there exists some RPM that could make the proxy controls appear on the server manager panel as the port forwarding feature does.

Kind regards,

Why do you want to change the proxy port?

NAT is configured automatically, as long as you choose server-gateway mode.

Why do you want to disable the proxy?

I'm sure if you search here you'll find some relevant information.

Hi Charlie:

Why do I want to change the proxy port ?
Because I have to solve a problem with an IRC program who's author claims that to fix a bug the proxy port must be changed to 1080 or other. Also because I don't want to use a Windows based proxy such as WinGate or WinProxy, but these programs have lots of flexibilities. I would like to see if I could have part of these flexibilities using SQUID. I did searched this forum for information before I made my 1st. post and I found some french people that have an RPM available for adding flexibiities to the proxy, but I decided to consult with the group first before loading anything to the fresh intallation.

Kind regards
