The Mysql 4.0.xx upgrade method needed to be tweaked a bit for 6.5beta1.  I started an update scripts page here - http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/SME6.5UpdateScripts

For a bit more info and any to give any comments about these update scripts please use this thread - http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=25744.0

Built in DNS removal

I need to delegate DNS to an internal DNS server that has host names collected through active directory.  How would I do this in the new 6.5 release?  Thanks.

I recently purchased the dungog suite of software and it worked great on the stable version of sme but the 6.5 beta didn't go so well.

The dungog software was looking for older versions of software that the stable release has, for ex.

1. Stables has perl-libnet-1.17-1
2. The beta has perl-libnet-1.18-1

Dungog requires you to have perl-libnet-1.17-1

I am working on it currently right now, just wanted to let everyone know they might want to hold off upgrading if they use the dungog software. I'll update as soon as I know a workaround.

perl-libnet-1.17 is included in the directory of another contrib for convenience, if 6.5 has a later version just delete the 1.17 version (don't try to install it).

we encourage the use of 6.5
just remember it's a first release beta

if you find a dungog related incompatability before we do pleae let us know

Here is the exact text from SME

[root@sme av]# rpm -Uvh clamav/*.rpm
Preparing...                ########################################### [100%]
package perl-MailTools-1.61-1 (which is newer than perl-MailTools-1.60-0.rh73.dag) is already installed
package perl-libnet-1.18-1 (which is newer than perl-libnet-1.17-1) is already installed

I removed both the packages from the clamav dir that it said were already installed.

So far it's been working great.

The code to forward to a different DNS server is
still there, just do the following:

/sbin/e-smith/config setprop dnscache Forwarder <dns server>
/etc/e-smith/events/actions/dnscache-conf

To remove it do the following:

/sbin/e-smith/config delprop dnscache Forwarder
/etc/e-smith/events/actions/dnscache-conf

Just to report my first reactions to the new 6.5b...

Ilove it.  Great work.  I like the plan outlined by the leaders...stable and measured is good.

The only problem I ran into that was a bit unexpected is that the installation did not recognize the builtin NIC on a new Intel 915-chipset mainboard, nor did it recognize a D-Link DGE-530T GbE NIC.

Supposedly, the DGE-530T uses the sk98lin driver, which is included, but it doesn't seem to work even if loaded manually.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to getting newer Intel NICs or the D-Link DGE-530T NICs working?

Suggestions as to any GbE NIC that works well with SME6.5?

Thanks again for the great work,

G

I had 6.5 Beta2 running all weekend on a spare server I had luying around. I was very pleased at the stability of the server and was more than pleased with the performance and memory management.

Also, I honesty can't see a need to add any new contrib to the server as the base + update script loaded everything I could possibly need (well, possibly dungog's virtual domain contrib).

The only problems I had were with SpamAssassin and Backup to Desktop.

SA (from Jesper Knudsen) would load but not run probably. I'm assuming there are some dependencies on 6.0 components that cause incompatibility here. The backup component was downloading files that had zero content (ie blank). However, after registering this as a bug I was notified that it was not re-creatable.

All in all, I am really looking forward to the final release. I'm very impressed with all the hard work that has gone into this release!!

Please if you are going to report bugs do so on a clean system.  The update script loads a lot of packages that mess with much of the functionality of the basic SME setup.

What is the point of this thread? I was under the impression that Greg's update just covered horde, mysql, and php.

I hope this is the right place to post this,
the howto here http://www.schirrms.net/sme/SMEFetchMail.php
for pop3 retrieval I tried yesterday was made for 6.0.x
didn't work on the 6.5 beta1 release.

after installing the rpm required, I porceded to mail retrieval and then tried to create the account, it would  only display the name of the user, and wouldn't give any other options.

I haven't tried it on the beta2 yet, but when i get a chance i will let you know.

cheers

I installed phpmyadmin (e-smith-phpmyadmin-2.6.0-12.noarch.rpm) on my test server SME 6.5 beta 2. Install ran fine. But I am not able to use it. At https://myserver/phpmyadmin , I get an error 404.

PS : I never used phpmyadmin before. So may be, I wrong somewhere else.

Hi all,
I've just published a html page with RPM comparison of some different SME version

http://smerp.free.fr/comp_RPM.html

* 6.0.1
* 6.0.1 with yum update
* 6.0.1 with yum update & update from knudsen script
* 6.5 beta 2

In light blue you have the new RPM from one version to the next.
In light green you have the update...
In lignt orange you have the regression
In light red you will find the disparition

In fact, some removed RPM were not in the 6.0.1 version, but only added by the two updates...

It's important to see that some of the 6.5 RPM are really outdated and have some huge security hole...
Then it's the day to update them...

What's a joke ...

Have a look at http://www.fedoralegacy.org.

All rpms included in SME 6.5 are the last versions of the security fix from fedoralegacy. The rpms are built with backport of bugfix from latter versions, when needed. Can you point me in php-4.1.2-7.3.10.legacy.i386.rpm security issues which are not adressed?
