I ran thru the configuration again and let it reboot. I tried pinging google.com with no success.
I ran ifconfig and noticed that the eth1 (outside) didn't have an ip. Both int and ext are setup for static ip's, (eg 192.x.x.x). Maybe this is a bug from when switching from dhcp to statically assigned
I ran the configuration again and switched the local and external adapters around.
Now I don't have a dns problem, I can resolve domains and etc.
I'd still like to know what file to edit to specify dns
