The PERC3/Di cache battery backup needs to be reconditioned periodically.
If it isn't, it will shut down write caching. In order to recondition under Linux,
you need to install a command line utility.
This can be downloaded from Dell's website. I used the Redhat 7.3 version for my SME6.0 servers.
The file downloaded is:
aacraid-util-rh7.3-i386.tar.gz
There is a readme file inside the gz file.
I used winzip to extract it and copied the rpm to an ibay on the server.
I then used the following to install and begin reconditioning the battery:
rpm -ivh afaapps-2.6-1.i386.rpm
afacli #this opens a command line application
open afa0 #opens the first controller
controller battery_recondition #begins reconditioning battery
Other commands:
? #help
controller details #shows status
