upgrade from e-smith to SMEv5
« on: October 06, 2001, 03:07:54 AM »
Hello all,

I have upgraded from e-smith 4.1.2 to SME v5. Everything seemed fine but I noticed when I reboot the server when it is trying to load httpd-e-smith it fails.

Can some one tell me what httpd-e-smith is? (the httpd-e-smith-admin loads fine?) and how I can maybe fix it or get rid of it if I do not need it.

On 4.1.2 I had a standard install with the Jukebox rpm installed. I have used blades to install the new Jukebox and the latest updates.

Thanks for your help

Hello all,

I have some extra info.

I can access http://domainname.xxx from within network no worries but http:// externally does not work only https:// works

I can restart
/etc/init.d/httpd restart
/etc/init.d/httpd-e-smith restart
/etc/init.d/httpd-admin restart

without errors but server still gives an error on start up with httpd-e-smith

Any ideas

TIA

Not being able to access via http from outside sounds like your ISP is blocking port 80.  If httpd-e-smith weren't starting, you wouldn't be able to access via http or https from inside or outside.

After the errors starting up, is anything listed in error_log?

I had the same error. It took some time for me to find the solution.

In my case, I found out, that the apache rpm was not installed. I tried to install it manually and got a failure message, that the MD5 sum is incorrect. Then I checked the MD5 sum of the downloaded ISO and found out, that there was also a problem. I´m going to download the iso again from linuxiso.org, because they have a checksum on their files. When I´ve installed the new version again, I hope that the problem is gone. If you are interested tell me.

Dan,

The only errors are messages about files not been there. All are files in ibays that I have deleted so i am not to worried. I am still getting the failed error message on httpd but everything seems to work fine except that I can only use https not http externally. I can stop and restart httpd with no errors. Weird.......

Thanks for your help
