How can I CHMOD stats.txt to 777 ???
« on: January 28, 2005, 10:50:12 AM »
I am as newbie as can be !

I have downloaded and installed the contribs.org server.

Now I have created a website and put it on my server.
It works !  :-D

But now I wish to CHMOD a file named stats.txt
when I try to do this using FTP(MS-IE5) it gives me
error message : permission denied !

So I downloaded ftp-leech, and again the same problem occurs.

How can I CHMOD stats.txt to 777 ???

I have no idea how this server works at all.
I have never even seen linux at all.
I have no idea at all.

Please help me CHMOD stats.txt to 777.

Try our fine manual first and find out how to log into the server-console. Then navigate to /home/e-smith/files/ibays/ or where your text is located. Then type "chmod 777 stats.txt."

Besides of that: your IE Version 5 is very dangerous to use. Consider updating or best use another browser.

Provide detailed info about the server version you use.

The 777 permission also seems very dangerous to me.

You should never chmod anythign on your machine to 777.  If the software you are running requires this, then it means it isn't written very well.

What are you trying to do?  My guess you can achieve the same results with different permissions.

The well written manual is located at : http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/bobk/down-loads/

And it's in HRF (Human Readable Format) so it's for normal people as well  ;-)
